Notes on Air Asia: Love them or hate them? Air Asia often has the lowest fares, has a extensive route and plenty of ticketing outlets. For many people Air Asia is the first place to look for a cheap ticket. The other side of the coin is that Air Asia is a hardass company, with a online booking engine counter-intuitive that seems set up to lure unsuspecting travelers into buying every extra they don’t want. AirAsia will not refund money spent on connecting flights that were missed, even if the person checked on time and the delay was down to Air Asia. Online customer service at Air Asia often seems to be non-existent. So there you are, take your chances. Suggestion: Do not be tempted to book AirAsia flights that require a connecting flight, where the gap time is short. If you miss your connecting fight you’ll be paying for a new ticket.
One last point. Be sure to bring cash in either Malaysian dollars or in the the currency of the place you are going to. Otherwise you could find yourself, as one traveler did, on a plane to London (13.5 hours) with the Air Asia staff unwilling to sell a bottle of water in another curency, or even offer a glass of water free of charge.
